On Friday, July 24, 2026, Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs (MAEC), and Kathia Verdier, Minister for Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), held a working meeting via videoconference with the six Heads of Consular Missions accredited to the United States, as well as the Ambassador of Haiti to Washington, Lionel Delatour.

This meeting reflects the Government's commitment to assisting Haitian citizens facing a complex migration situation, particularly with the impending end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

While recognizing the sovereign right of every State to implement its migration policy, the Haitian Government is continuing its efforts with the relevant U.S. authorities. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is implementing an inter-institutional approach to provide a structured, coherent, rapid, and compassionate response.

This meeting allowed the various Heads of Mission to assess the situation in their respective jurisdictions. Fully aware of the anxiety many Haitians are experiencing due to the uncertainty surrounding migration, the Ministers reaffirmed the Government's firm commitment to stand by its citizens and ensure that no one is left to face this ordeal alone.

Minister Raina Forbin also instructed all heads of consular posts to maintain a constant presence within the Haitian communities and to provide rigorous and professional support to each citizen, in accordance with international conventions and applicable laws.

Several mechanisms will be deployed for this purpose, including the development of a dedicated platform to identify, track, and provide individual guidance to affected citizens, as well as the establishment of a call center to handle emergency situations and provide necessary legal assistance, if required. A skills assessment of the relevant diaspora is also underway.

In parallel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Citizenship Abroad (MHAVE) are committed to strengthening collaboration with relevant national institutions to expedite the issuance of identity documents and passports, an immediate priority for many Haitians living abroad.

The two Ministers also pledged to reinforce this collaboration within their respective areas of intervention to better guarantee the protection of the rights of Haitians living abroad and to defend their interests.
