On Wednesday March 17, 2021, the State Department had a virtual meeting with representatives of the private sector from Haiti and the Dominican Republic in order to take stock of the projects carried out within the framework of joint initiatives aimed at contributing to a future more prosperous for both countries.

The meeting was hosted by the Assistant Assistant Secretary of State ai for Haiti, Canada and the Caribbean, Laura Lochman, the United States Ambassador to Haiti, Michèle Sison and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of United States in the Dominican Republic Robert Thomas.

Despite the challenges of the past two years, this ongoing dialogue has proven to be a useful mechanism for collaborative discussions and for achieving concrete results. The participants reiterated their commitment to a set of specific priorities aimed at improving the business climate, formalizing trade, promoting the rule of law and encouraging development along the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
