The Consul General of Haiti in New York, Lauture Jacques had an excellent meeting with the Israeli-Moroccan Orthodox Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto in his offices. Discussions focused on the Haitian socio-economic situation. Consul Jacques took the opportunity to draw Rabbi Pinto's attention to business opportunities in the Haitian market. The latter expressed a great desire to visit Haiti soon. The Rebbe praised the history of Haiti. And promised to support the Haitian people.

After the meeting, Consul Jacques and Rabbi Pinto agreed to define an action plan to help Haiti.

The Israeli business daily "Globes" named him in 2012 as one of Israel’s ten wealthiest rabbis.
