Friday, May 28, Dr. Yolène Vaval Suréna (68), pedagogue, great figure of civil society, mother of 4 died around 3:00 a.m. in the unit for patients with Covid-19 at the university hospital of Mirebalais, following complications of the disease confirmed the Ministry of Public Health.

"Dr Jeanne Marie Yolène Vaval Suréna, the first Director of the Haitian Civil Protection Directorate (DPC), from 1995 to 2003, has passed away. A collaborator of exemplary competence and communicative interpersonal skills, she left her mark on a whole generation of managers and volunteers of the National Disaster Risk Management System, whom she has seen grow and mature. I offer my condolences, those of my family and those of the entire civil protection family to Dr. Claude Surena, her children and all her collaborators who have had the privilege of working with her. The DPC will be forever grateful to this pioneer. ". That his soul rests in peace," Jerry Chandler, Director General of the DPC.
