iciHaiti - Cinema : The Haitian feature film «Freda» in competition at the Cannes Film Festival
The Organizing Committee of the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (July 6-7, 2021) has officially announced that the film "Freda", the first feature film by Haitian director Gessica Generus, is part of the official selection of the 74th edition of the Festival de Cannes (July 6-7, 2021) in the "un certain regard" category, a category dedicated to the promotion of young filmmakers.

The film, shot in Port-au-Prince in 2019 and 2020, is a fictional autobiography on the plight of women in working-class neighborhoods, said Géneus.

The film was produced by Ayizan Prod from Haiti, Sanosi Prod (France) and Merveille Prod (Benin), and tells the story of three women, who decided to leave a disadvantaged town plagued by growing insecurity, after an event traumatic.

The film Freda also offers a space for new and old national talents such as Gaëlle Bien-Aimé, Néhémie Bastien in the lead role, Cantave Kervens, Paula Peant, Bertrand Roy, Djanaina François, among others.

Reacting to this announcement Jélorme Juste, Advisor, Resp. from the Consular Section of the Embassy of Haiti in Washington sent congratulations to the director "My congratulations to Gessica Geneus for this important achievement. Choosing your latest film FREDA at the prestigious international film festival Festival de Cannes is the result of hard and disciplined work. Haitian youth can be proud of you."
