Those who assassinated President Jovenel Moise on Wednesday were «professional» mercenaries posing as US agents, Haitian Ambassador to Washington Bocchit Edmond told reporters.

"It was a well-planned attack and they were professionals [...] We have a video and we think they were mercenaries."

The members of the commando presented themselves at the residence of President Moïse as being agents of the "Drug Control Administration" (DEA), but their behavior was not in conformity with that of the members of the American agency, specified the diplomat.

Edmond explained that an investigation was underway into the motives and origins of these mercenaries.
