Tuesday, August 24 at around 3:00 p.m., a Customs and Border Protection patrol in collaboration with Air and Marine Operations and the US Coast Guard Southeast (USCG) responded to an alert reporting a suspicious boat.

Federal agents and local law enforcement officials attended the scene and intercepted 42 Haitian migrants who had landed illegally on US soil near Key Biscayne.

The Haitian migrants have been taken into custody, pending their possible deportation to Haiti, confirmed Thomas Martin, Chief Patrol Officer of US Customs and Border Protection.

The boat carrying them was seized.
