iciHaiti - Social : The Embassy of Haiti worried about deportations in DR
The Embassy of Haiti in Santo Domingo expresses its concern about the way in which the arrests and deportations of Haitian migrants living in the Dominican Republic are carried out ...

"We recognize and respect the right of the Dominican State to apply its migration policy against irregular immigration. However, we warn against the fact that certain processes of interpellation for the repatriation of our compatriots, including the conditions of detention, do not respect the fundamental rights or the procedures established by the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries."

Indeed, the Embassy of Haiti claims to have received "information on compatriots who were detained, mainly in Santo Domingo and Santiago, by agents of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), among which Haitian students studying in the country, but whose passports are being visaed by the Dominican Consulates in Haiti."

Likewise, the Diplomatic Mission observed with concern the intervention of the DGM on the night of Thursday, October 21, 2021 around 10:30 p.m., at the Euforia Club on Avenida Venezuela, followed by the arrest of an unknown number of Haitians, in the middle of a musical concert organized as part of a weekly "Chill-out" program that has been going on for over a year without any incident.
