iciHaiti - Insecurity : The Bahamas, close their Embassy in Port-au-Prince

The Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has temporarily closed its Embassy in Haiti.

In a statement, the Bahamian Government said diplomatic staff from its Embassy in Haiti had returned to the Bahamas.

"This decision was taken because of great prudence and the serious concern of the Government in the face of the deterioration of the security situation in Haiti," declared the Deputy Frederick A. Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Service.

Embassy security officers remain in Haiti and will help monitor the current situation in the country.
