Message from Consul General Fritz Dorvilier : "The situation of our dear Nation continues to deteriorate to the point that it finds itself on the verge of collapse. However, our ancestors who made Vertières, with bravery and a sense of patriotic sacrifice, left us a land, certainly ravaged and soiled by the slave regime, but with great potential for economic prosperity and human development. Obviously, due to our egocentric and clan behavior, we have not been able to mend and grow this land. We even let another branch of the colonial family take most of it from us and swear our demise henceforth. On this occasion to commemorate the 218th anniversary of the heroic and liberating Battle of Vertières, the time is not for long and fine speeches but for progressive and transformative actions, I would like to send a simple if not crucial message to Haitian citizens, more particularly to the Haitian elites : finally, let us try to prove ourselves worthy of the heritage of Vertières.
