iciHaiti - Literature : Dubreuil Prize for the first novel 2021, awarded to «Soleil à coudre» by Jean D’Amérique
The young Haitian poet, slammer, writer and playwright born Jean Civilus (26) aka "Jean D'Amérique" who received the 2021 Apollinaire Discovery Prize a few days ago for his collection of poetry "Atelier du silence" published by Cheyne Éditeur https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-35265-icihaiti-poetry-the-2021-apollinaire-discovery-prize-awarded-to-jean-d-amerique.html is once again rewarded and receives the Dubreuil Prize of the first novel 2021 of the Société des Gens De Lettres (SGDL) for his novel "Soleil à coudre" A cruel fable swollen with poetry, of desire and blood, where the naivety of an impossible childhood collides with the ruthless crudeness of the world.

"“Very happy and proud to present the Dubreuil Prize of the Société des Gens de Lettres to Jean D'Amérique yesterday [Saturday, November 20] for his novel 'Soleil à coudre', carried by a magnificent language, without concession or complacency,'" declared Ella Balaert, member of the SGDL Committee.

Reacting to the news of this new Prize on his facebbok page, Jean D’Amérique wrote "Letters torn from the long night of my country. Heartbeats from the broken neighborhoods of my beloved city, Port-au-Prince. Words that came straight from my bowels. A cry sewn into my flesh, in my blood. In short, a text that matters a lot to me.

Thank you to the jury for having rewarded him with this Prize. It is a great joy for me to see this book make such a beautiful journey !

I dedicate this banner to my Editor Marie Desmeures [at Acte Sud]."
