iciHaiti - DR : Arrest of 2 Haitian employees of the Haitian consulate in Dajabón
Thursday, December 16, members of the S-2 intelligence service, attached to the fourth brigade of the Dominican army based in Mao and migration inspectors, arrested at the military checkpoint of Las Matas in Santa Cruz (Montecristi) two employees from the Haitian consulate in Dajabón (Wiliamson Jean and Jackson Lorian) who were traveling in a Chevrolet vehicle, white registered A860322. They were in possession of 11 passports, visa-free, and equipment to forge Dominican documents.

Colonel Germán Rosario, the Commander of the Fourth Brigade, indicated that two laptops, two fingerprint readers, two retina readers, a barcode reader, USB sticks, tripods with their reflectors for taking photos, a scanner and a seal of the Solidarity Association of Migrant Workers of the North-West Line (ASOMILIN) had been seized during this arrest.

However, on Friday, December 17, the Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic provided clarifications on the arrest of these employees allegedly involved in trafficking in the production of false identity documents. The Embassy explained that the two people arrested are two official employees of the Consulate who carried out their regular duties as community agents as part of the documentation process carried out by the Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic, stressing that the consulate of Dajabón traveled frequently to carry out documentation activities in the communities to facilitate data entry.

The diplomatic mission clarified that this was a misunderstanding that is being clarified between the Haitian and Dominican authorities.
