iciHaiti - Social : Few Haitians in the DR are going to Haiti this year for the holidays
Usually, during this holiday season, thousands of Haitians in an irregular migratory situation crowd into the "guaguas", minibuses and other vehicles dedicated to transport from Santiago to Dajabón, to go to Haiti spend Christmas and New Years, with their families.

But this year, many have decided not to do so, as they predict that on their return to the country they will have problems with the migration authorities, the reinforced military surveillance at the border and the numerous checks on the roads in the Dominican territory.

The drivers of the public transport services that serve the Santiago-Dajabón route confirm the considerable drop in Haitian passengers to Haiti for this period of the year compared to previous years at the same time. Another secondary factor that is probably combining is the growing increase in insecurity in Haiti.

Juan Marte, the President of the National Central of Transport Workers called on carriers to refrain from transferring from the border area to Santiago and other areas Haitians in an irregular migratory situation to avoid inconvenience with Dominican border authorities.
