On the morning of Monday, September 14, 2026, a contingent of Haitian National Police (PNH) contingent was stationed at the Dajabón binational crossing point; traders and transporters found the route closed to Dominican products that have long fueled economic activity between the two towns.

Mathieu Thierry, the Haitian customs official for Ouanaminthe, visited the site accompanied by others.

According to reports, Thierry instructed security personnel to deny entry to goods appearing on a list of restricted products. The affected items include wheat flour, cooking oil, laundry detergent, polystyrene packaging, drinking water, butter, margarine, construction steel, pasta, powdered juice mixes, soft drinks, beer, snacks, heavy construction machinery, and plastic household utensils.

The document also specifies that exports must be transported by air or via seaports.

Haitian authorities had announced a ban on certain products from the Dominican Republic over a year ago. However, it was only this Monday that they began strictly enforcing the measure at the border bridge.

For many families on both sides of the border, each restriction translates into falling sales, stranded goods, and a renewed threat to their livelihoods.

On the Dominican side, President Luis Abinader announced that the Dominican government would make its official position known on Tuesday regarding the new measure adopted by Haitian authorities, which restricts the entry of a wide range of Dominican products into their territory.
