The papaya harvest season has arrived in Haiti

From selecting quality seedlings to crop management and harvesting, the Taiwanese technical team from the International Development Cooperation Fund (ICD) supports Haitian farmers at every stage.

Today, this plot has become one of the few papaya farms in the region to have reached a certain scale and to be well-maintained.

During fruiting, the farmers regularly remove diseased and old leaves to promote good air circulation and protect the fruit.

In Haiti, papaya is generally harvested green and eaten as a vegetable. However, the "Hongfei" variety, introduced from Taiwan, reveals a sweet, fragrant, and delicate flavor when ripe.

The Taiwanese technical team teaches the farmers how to determine the optimal harvest time by observing the change in skin color. And when the ripe papayas reach their hands, their smiles are our greatest reward.
