iciHaiti - Environment : Launch of the project «Conservation of Coastal and Marine Habitats»
The Foundation for the Protection of Marine Biodiversity (FoProBiM), will proceed Thursday, January 27, 2022 in Les Cayes to the launching ceremony of the project "Conservation of Coastal and Marine Habitats)" (CMHC acronym English), funded by the American Agency for the International Development (USAID).

The CMHC project implemented by FoProBiM, which aims to improve the management and conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems in the Protected Area of Managed Natural Resources of Port-Salut/Aquin (PSA) (South Dept.) around 3 key components:

Component 1:
Education/awareness to ensure long-term conservation impacts;

Component 2:
Strengthening local governance structures to manage and conserve biodiversity over the long term;

Component 3:
Increase local resilience through assessment and initiation of alternative livelihood activities related to environmental restoration/rehabilitation to reduce underlying threats to coastal and marine resources (income diversification and increased resilience communities).

It is expected that the CMHC project will contribute to the resilience of coastal and marine areas at the PSA level, while strengthening local structures for biodiversity conservation. The CMHC will directly contribute to the Government's efforts to improve the management of marine protected areas in the country, by establishing governance structures at the local community level.
