iciHaiti - Social : 2nd day of demonstration, at least 2 dead and 5 wounded by bullets
Tuesday August 23, 2022, second day of mobilization and protest against crime, insecurity, high prices, inflation, scarcity of fuel, devaluation of the Gourdes, and bad governance. Just like Monday, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37465-haiti-flash-the-population-close-to-the-revolt-at-least-2-dead-and-several-injured-in-the-country-video.html the day was marred by the usual violence, barricades of burning tires, vandalism and clashes with the police.

In addition to the capital and the metropolitan area, some provincial towns were again in turmoil (Cayes, Petit-Goâve and Jacmel...) while others were "relatively calm" (Miragoâne, Cap Haïtien...)

In Les Cayes, two people were shot dead according to witnesses : Woodler Mesidor was killed at Carrefour Laval, on the road leading to Antoine Simon airport in Les Cayes while he was running, Fernio Noël was killed at Dexia 6 while that he showed his hostility towards the police forces.

In Jacmel, the violence did not spare the demonstrators, at least 5 of whom were wounded by bullets (Ardan Sauveur, Darley Content, Denis Lainé, Jeff Timothé and Jude Désir). Two injuries were also reported among the police.

In Petit-Goâve, barricades of burning tires blocked many road accesses, clashes between protesters and police left at least 1 injured.

According to various testimonies, the dead and wounded by bullets are attributed to the police who fired bursts into the air to disperse the demonstrators who were throwing stones and bottles at them, but some police officers fired at the height of men at the demonstrators.
