iciHaiti - Petit-Goâve : 2 detainees die of starvation, 5 others in serious condition
Friday, September 23, 2022, two prisoners packed like animals in two small cells in the civil prison of Petit-Goâve died of starvation. In a state of great weakness, the police station was unable to feed the detainees due to the total depletion of the stock of food provisions for several days.

It is noted that the detainees languish in inhuman conditions in cramped and overcrowded cells while the new prison of the police station, not yet inaugurated, is empty !

According to information provided by the prison official, one of the deceased prisoners was from Léogâne imprisoned for having stolen an electric wire and the other, from the 5th communal section of Petit-Goâve, was serving a prison sentence for having stole a rooster.

Let's note that 5 other prisoners are in very serious condition and could die in the next few hours. An appeal for food aid for the prisoners of Petit-Goâve is launched to the central authorities, otherwise other prisoners will die of hunger...

Let's recall that from January to September 2022, 17 detainees died of starvation in the prisons of Les Cayes, Jacmel, Mirebalais and Petit-Goave.
