iciHaiti - UEH : Launch of the UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage

Rector Fritz DESHOMMES launched, last week, the UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage at the State University of Haiti. The ceremony was held virtually with the participation, among others: of Professor Kenrick DEMESVAR, holder of the said chair, of Ms. Inga MICHANIAN, Representative of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program, of Mr. Richard Edric RICHEMOND, Representative of the Haitian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO and other personalities…

The UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage of the UEH was created in April 2022. It is an apolitical research and teaching structure hosted at the Institute of Studies and Research African of Haiti, (IERAH) of the UEH. It aims to develop knowledge and academic, scientific and technical skills in history and heritage in order to strengthen the actions of the State and communities in the areas taken into account.

An autonomous entity governed by UNESCO guidelines and procedures, this new chair is open to various categories of people, including professors, students, researchers, artists, artisans, etc... evolving in the relevant fields. According to Rector Fritz DESHOMMES, "this chair offers us the opportunity to develop new inter-university partnerships, to broaden our research and dissemination horizons and thereby strengthen our training, research and community service activities."

Already in the chair's activity plan, a multitude of events are planned, including symposiums, study days, conferences, seminars, events, scientific publications, etc... It should be noted that on the sidelines of the ceremony, the Rector Fritz DESHOMMES signed the agreement establishing the UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage of the UEH.
