Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry and Alex Larsen the Minister of Public Health proceeded last week to the inauguration of a new outpatient emergency service at the University Hospital of Peace (HUP), located at 21b in Delmas 33.

This new emergency service is the first project of its type in Haiti that is part of the "SMART Hospital" initiative of the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).

With a capacity of 13 beds, this service is equipped with all the medical equipment necessary to provide emergency care services. The service includes a triage room, an observation room, a laboratory, a pharmacy, a room for sterilization, sutures and casts.

This new emergency service was carried out with the technical assistance of PAHO/WHO, represented by Dr. Ciro Ugarte, Director of the Department of Health Emergencies, and the representative of PAHO / WHO in Haiti Dr. Maureen Birmingham, assistance from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the United States Government.
