On Thursday, December 22, soldiers from the Specialized Land Borders Security Corps (CESFRONT) were forced to close the Carrizal / Elías Piña border post after nationals of the neighboring country blocked the border crossing in retaliation for the arrest of one of their compatriot.

In a statement, CESFRONT reports that its agents had to use two mechanical shovels to move the container that was placed at the door and push it towards Haitian territory, to be able to close the door on the Dominican side.

The CESFRONT explained that the action is a reprisal of the Haitians which follows the arrest of a Haitian citizen in an irregular migratory situation, who resisted and attacked one of the soldiers and in the fight, the Haitian citizen was struck in the forehead and slightly injured.

The Haitian was handed over to the Dominican National Police pending presentation before the Public Prosecutor.
