iciHaiti - Graduation ceremony : 40 young people from Cité Soleil learned a trade
On Sunday May 30, 2023, the Maurice A. Sixto Foundation closed the "KALM" project, which was carried out for 6 months in the comune of Cité Soleil, precisely in Sarthe.

The KALM project, which is part of the "Ann Chanje Wout" program initiated by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), has enabled 40 young people at risk to learn a trade in collaboration with the Grand College Bilingue de Sarthe Professional Section (GCBS) in order to protect them from delinquency and banditry.

From November 2022 to April 2023, these young people from different marginal neighborhoods took practical and theoretical courses in cooking-pastry-bar, macramé, screen printing, dance and drama.

On Sunday, the 40 beneficiaries of the project received their parchment during a ceremony at Bazilik 33 in Delmas, in the presence of representatives of the project's partner institutions, parents and many distinguished guests.

The Executive Director of the Maurice A. Sixto Foundation, Mrs. Gertrude C. Séjour, explains explained "[...] the execution of such a project has not always been easy in terms of security because of the constant tension that exists in Cité Soleil, which forced us to work mainly at weekends. It was often very difficult for us to go to the scene [...] We would have liked to continue this project in the various vulnerable areas of the country to sensitize a greater number of young people to refute violence or any other bad way, but, unfortunately we are short of funding."
