Jean-Claude Sanon, former Governor of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), from June 1985 to February 1986, died Thursday October 26, 2023 in the United States at the age of 82, following illness.

At the helm of the country's monetary policy in the turbulent pivotal period which preceded a profound change in the Haitian socio-political system, Sanon used all his great intellectual resources to minimize as much as possible the negative impact of any acyclical event on the major macroeconomic and monetary balances.

He was a very brilliant executive, a wise administrator of public funds with an exemplary career, Director of Currency and International Affairs, Director General within the Board of Directors of the BRH where he was for several years a very influential technocrat, then, for less than a year, as Governor.

As such,he will have left a lasting imprint and a memory which marked minds well beyond the Central Bank.

"In this painful circumstance, the Board of the BRH presents its sympathies to his parents and friends, and salutes the memory of a brilliant technician who was only too briefly able to give the best of himself to his country."
