iciHaiti - Crisis : 44% of the population suffers from food deficiencies

The chain of crises that have hit Haiti for years has already forced more than 200,000 people to leave their homes and increased the extent of food insecurity, which already affects 4.35 million citizens, or 44% of the population of Haiti according to data from the World Food Program (WFP).

Since mid-August the situation has worsened when Port-au-Prince was the scene of a new outbreak of violence attributed to armed groups. During this period alone, some 40,000 people have been displaced and now find themselves in makeshift and precarious camps, with no minimum conditions.

For their part, the WFP and partner organizations distributed some 550,000 food packages to the latest victims of the violence. The organization's objective is to gradually move from providing food to providing financial assistance, so that each family decides on its needs and thus promotes the local economy.
