iciHaiti - Mariani : Bandits have occupied the DINEPA water pumping station for 8 days
Since November 1st, 2023, members of a heavily armed gang have controlled major water collection facilities of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) in Mariani, which supply several neighborhoods in Carrefour and in Port-au-Prince. The Haitian National Police (PNH) has so far been unable to regain control of these installations.

Guito Édouard, the Director of DINEPA on a radio station in the capital, said he was worried, DINEPA staff no longer having access to the Mariani site, he does not know if the valves supplying the other catchments from of this station are still operating and believes that the water quality control unit is no longer able to carry out its work. He maintains that the presence of these individuals in the station represents "a major public health and safety problem".

Let's remember that this pumping station financed by the Inter-American Development Bank to the tune of 22 million dollars, supplies water to neighborhoods such as Mon Repos, Lamentin, Canne-à-Sucre, Christophe Channel, Midway, Paloma, Titus, Bertin, Sapotille, Chez Cator, Platali, Mariani and the surrounding streets that bandits could compromise at any time...
