iciHaiti - Demonstrations : Tension rises in Ouanaminthe

Monday January 15, 2024, several truckers and unions from Ouanaminthe blocked the passage of the main road leading to Cap Haïtien.

Small merchantw say they are tired of the abuses committed by the authorities of this community, who claim to charge a toll to Haitians who buy and sell in the markets. They demand the resignation of Ariel Henry

After calling for civil disobedience and asking the population to occupy public sector offices, Guy Phillipe benefits from the armed support of the Protected Areas Surveillance Brigade (BSAP), but unlike 2004, without the participation of politicians and businessmen.

Other demonstrations are planned for this Tuesday in this town, which is why these unions are calling on citizens not to send students to schools.
