iciHaiti - PNH : Several dozen police officers trained and certified against sexist and sexual violence (Video)

Several dozen police officers received their certificates after participating in three days of training on the theme "Fighting gender-based and sexual violence in Haiti (2024-2026)" carried out in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada in Haiti, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).

Experienced and seasoned, the trainers addressed the concept of gender-based violence (GBV) in its entirety. They also made intelligible for the participants the procedure for investigating sexual violence, the care of victims of rape and sexual violence, the protection of victims, the acts of investigation in matters of sexual violence, the role of judicial actors and others...

In his opening speech, Haman Zachari, Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), said he hoped to strengthen the capacity of the specialized units of the Haitian National Police (PNH) in investigating cases of GBV. He also spoke about taking into consideration victims of sexual violence in the West, the Great South and the Great North.

The Spokesperson for the Haitian National Police (PNH), Divisional Commissioner Michel Ange Louis Jeune, maintains that the police institution has always believed that the fight against this scourge must always involve education and integration. He said he hopes that the police officers will benefit from these trainings and that they will put their knowledge to the benefit of Haiti in general and the PNH in particular.
