iciHaiti - USA : Coast Guard repatriates 124 illegal migrants to Haiti
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the crew of the Coast Guard cutter "Bear" repatriated to Haiti 124 Haitians in an irregular migration situation, resulting from two boat interceptions.

"Our priority is to prevent the unnecessary loss of life at sea," said Lieutenant Commander Brent Pearson, Coast Guard liaison officer to the United States Embassy in Haiti. "Attempting illegal migration in overloaded and unsafe boats without safety equipment is extremely dangerous and puts your life and the lives of your loved ones at risk."

In an initial interception, a crew of an "HC-144 Ocean Sentry" from Coast Guard Air Station Miami notified Coast Guard District 7 lookouts of an overloaded makeshift vessel. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter William Trump was diverted to intercept the boat.

In a 2nd interception, Coast Guard Air Station Miami notified Coast Guard District 7 lookouts of an grossly overloaded makeshift vessel. District Seven watchstanders diverted the crews of Coast Guard Cutter Bear and Cutter Kathleen Moore to interdict the vessel and tranship illegal Haitians.

Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, migrants are processed to determine their identity and provided with food, water, shelter, and basic medical care before being repatriated to their home country or the country from which they departed.
