iciHaiti - Mission : Imminent deployment of Bahamian troops in Haiti
On Thursday, September 26, 2024, Ambassador Chet Donovan Neymour, Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS), deposited, in the presence of Ambassador Nestor Mendez, Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, and Ambassador Gandy Thomas, Acting Representative of Haiti to the OAS, the Bahamas’ instrument of accession to the Agreement protecting the status of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) in Haiti.

This crucial step will facilitate the imminent deployment of the 150 officers of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) in Haiti. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43052-icihaiti-bahamas-rbdf-troops-in-pre-deployment-phase-for-haiti.html

After Jamaica, Belize and the Bahamas, other countries in the region should soon join the Agreement, thus strengthening the contingents already deployed in Haiti.

Let's recall that this Agreement on the Protection of the Status of the Multinational Mission in Haiti was signed by Haiti and Kenya on June 21, 2024 at the OAS https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42604-haiti-flash-signing-of-an-agreement-on-the-legal-status-of-the-mission.html

In accordance with its Article 10, paragraph 7, the OAS acts as depositary of this Agreement.
