On Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, federal agents said they rescued and arrested 64 Haitian migrants in an irregular migration situation (30 men, 28 women and 6 minors) after smugglers abandoned them on Mona Island, making them believe it was the Puerto Rican coast...

This is the third time in recent weeks that a group of Haitians has been stranded on this island, located in dangerous waters between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Two weeks ago, 31 other migrants were rescued on the island, and last Sunday, 11 others were also discovered, authorities said.
