iciHaiti - Survey : Elections and understanding of the political system 14/10/2024 09:59:33
Internews and Policité conducted a survey on citizens’ needs and understanding of the political system in Haiti. Data was collected online and in person, between January 2 and 30, 2024, in all 10 departments of Haiti. The survey aimed to collect, among other things, citizens’ opinions on the Haitian political system, the electoral process, societal needs... in addition to identifying key factors that may limit civic engagement in the upcoming Haitian elections... The survey results indicate a general lack of confidence in the organization of elections in Haiti. 93% of respondents said they did not trust the Haitian electoral system. Only 13.42% of all respondents are certain to vote in the upcoming elections. 49.84% of respondents indicate that they do not understand at all how the State works. An overwhelming majority, 90.46%, of respondents (25-34 years old) believe that the way elections are organized in the country "is not good". Security is the most urgent need for 90.18% of respondents in urban areas and 88.32% of respondents in rural areas.
