iciHaiti - Border : Dominican army intensifies its offensive against illegal immigrant trafficking

Since September 2024, the Dominican Army has intensified its surveillance actions on the border with Haiti, leading to the arrest of 86 people for trafficking undocumented Haitians.

"No matter who they are, we have arrested members of the army, members of other institutions, Dominican nationals and Haitians [...] anyone involved in these illegal activities will be brought to justice," firmly stressed the Commander General of the Army, Jorge Iván Camino Pérez.

During the month of October, 16,255 Haitians who entered Dominican territory illegally were intercepted and returned to Haiti.

In total, Dominican authorities confiscated 250 vehicles, including 191 motorcycles directly linked to the trafficking of illegal Haitians.
