iciHaïti - Vertières 221st : Cap-Haitien proudly commemorates this historic Battle

On Monday, November 18, 2024, the city of Cap-Haitien proudly commemorated the 221st anniversary of the glorious Battle of Vertières, the final victory that led to Haiti's independence.

The day began with the laying of wreaths at the foot of the monuments erected on the Vertières site, in tribute to the heroes of 1803, in the presence of local authorities including Ms. Yvrose Pierre, Mayor of the city.

This moment of contemplation brought together local authorities, civil society organizations and students, all of whom came to honor the memory of the brave men and women who marked the history of our country.

In addition, a solemn Te Deum was then celebrated in the Cap-Haitien Cathedral, in the presence of local authorities and a large delegation of students from the city's schools.

During this official ceremony, the President of the Municipal Commission, Ms. Yvrose Pierre, gave a mobilizing speech declaring "[...] As in Vertières, we must recognize that it is in solidarity and without our ability to overcome our divisions that our true strength lies. The time is no longer for division, but for harmony and common action to offer our youth the hope of a better future."

This commemoration was much more than a simple tribute, it rekindled the flame of hope and recalled the importance of joining forces to honor the legacy of Vertières and build a better future for Haiti.
