iciHaiti - Disability : Promoting Braille for an inclusive future
Saturday, January 4th, 2025, International Braille Day, the Office of the Secretary of State (Génard Joseph) for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH), reaffirmed its commitment to promoting access to education and culture for visually impaired and blind people.

Braille (a tactile writing system with raised dots), a timeless legacy of Louis Braille, remains an essential tool for ensuring autonomy, inclusion and equal opportunities.

Despite technological advances, Braille remains an irreplaceable pillar for access to reading and education for visually impaired people.

The BSEIPH encourages all institutions, schools and organizations to strengthen the teaching of Braille, by offering adapted supports and ensuring that visually impaired and blind people can fully participate in social, cultural and professional life.

Louis Braille's work 200 years later, continues to inspire a more accessible world, merging with new technologies to facilitate access to information and education. However, although modern tools provide complementary solutions, Braille remains fundamental in the process of inclusion and emancipation.

The BSEIPH calls for collective action, through a strengthened commitment to the teaching of Braille and access to reading for all, in accordance with the principles enshrined in Articles 22 and 32.1 of the Haitian Constitution of 1987, which guarantee the right to education and culture for all, as well as Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
