iciHaiti - Taiwan : Field workshop for better rice harvests
As part of the Project for Improving Rice Production in the North/Northeast of Haiti, the Taiwan Technical Mission recently conducted field workshops in demonstration fields in Grison Garde in the North department of Haiti, as well as in Fort Liberté in the Nord-East department.

Members of three farmers’ organizations : Grison Garde, La Suisse and Breda, were invited to participate in exchanges and observations on rice farming practices.

The field demonstrations focused on the application of environmentally friendly practices and rational fertilization in rice production technology. Excessive application of fertilizers, commonly observed in traditional farming methods, pollutes rice fields and water sources and generates significant carbon emissions during fertilizer production and transportation, thus increasing environmental burdens. By promoting the "right time, right amount" fertilization approach, the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), effectively reducing environmental pressure while helping farmers save costs and increase yields.

The demonstrations highlighted the benefits of rational fertilization methods, which result in robust rice panicles and abundant harvests. Effective weed management in the fields also minimizes fertilizer waste, highlighting the benefits of scientific cultivation techniques.

This workshop, organized by the Taiwan Technical Mission, provided farmers with a platform to share knowledge and experiences, promoting mutual learning and growth. It also helped improve rice cultivation techniques among farmers in the North and Northeast regions of Haiti, injecting new impetus into local agricultural development.
