iciHaiti - FLASH : A Haitian billionaire (Forbes 2025)

Dr. Herriot Tabuteau, a proud Haitian-American physician and entrepreneur, is the founder of Axsome Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in central nervous system disorders.

While many industry giants were withdrawing from neuroscience research, Tabuteau and his team took the opposite bet. Several experimental drugs developed by Axsome have received the prestigious Breakthrough Therapy designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), demonstrating their significant clinical potential.

His primary research interests are neuropsychiatry and clinical research methodologies to improve the drug development process. His original concepts have resulted in experimental drugs that have received three U.S. FDA Breakthrough Therapy designations.

IPO'd in 2015 (NASDAQ : AXSM), the company's valuation has risen over the years, driven by its scientific advances. Today, Dr. Herriot Tabuteau, who owns 15% of Axsome's shares, has entered the prestigious Forbes list of billionaires of 2025. With an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion.

Dr. Tabuteau is not just a businessman; he is, above all, a scientist. He is the inventor or co-inventor of more than 200 patents, demonstrating his direct involvement in the development of treatments for neurological disorders.

Herriot Tabuteau grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and his bachelor's degree in molecular biology and biochemistry from Wesleyan University.
