iciHaiti - Expulsions : CPT condemns, Dominican authorities respond
The Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) has strongly condemned all forms of discrimination and any violation of fundamental rights suffered by our Haitian compatriots living in the Dominican Republic.

The conditions under which these Haitian citizens are being expelled are particularly worrying.

The CPT calls on the Dominican authorities to respect the human rights of Haitian nationals and to prioritize bilateral dialogue with a view to finding lasting, equitable solutions that respect human dignity.

Furthermore, the Presidential Council urges the competent Haitian authorities to take all necessary measures to welcome our expelled compatriots in dignified conditions, consistent with human rights principles.

On April 24, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic (MIREX) responded to the CPT and expressed the Dominican Republic's willingness to cooperate with Haiti. However, MIREX reiterated that every Nation has the sovereign right to take the necessary measures to ensure peace, stability, and peaceful coexistence within its territory.

MIREX also explained that the Dominican Republic's current migration policy is a response to the crisis in Haiti. He emphasized that the violence in Haiti represents a serious threat to the Dominican Republic, and stated that his country must respond to this threat decisively and responsibly.

The Ministry clarified that the repatriation of Haitians in an irregular migration situation is carried out within the framework of the law and in accordance with established procedures and human rights.

"The Dominican Republic will continue to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling networks. These networks violate the rights of the most vulnerable and perpetuate cycles of violence and exploitation. The Dominican Republic is also committed to maintaining a frank and respectful dialogue with the Haitian authorities and the relevant intergovernmental institutions. The goal is to achieve lasting solutions."
