iciHaiti - Education : Minister Antoine visits two apprenticeship compensation centers
On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, Augustin Antoine, the Minister of National Education, accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry, Yves Roblin, the Departmental Director of Education for the West, Louisseul Étienne France, the General Coordinator of the National School Meal Program (PNCS), Kevenot Dorvil, and the Director of Secondary Education, Miguel Fleurijean, Minister Augustin, conducted an assessment visit to two Learning Compensation Centers, at the Lycée National Pétion-Ville and the École République du Guatemala, respectively, two of the 30 compensation centers operating in the 16 school districts of the Departmental Directorate of Education (DDE) of the West.

The Minister wanted to inquire about the development of this Program, launched on April 12 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44698-haiti-education-launch-of-the-national-learning-compensation-program.html , which mobilizes nearly 3,000 teachers to help nearly 200,000 students in exam classes (9th Grade and Secondary IV) in public and private schools, in the 10 DDEs, compensate for learning losses due to the various difficulties experienced during the 2024-2025 school year as a result of armed violence.

The Minister took the opportunity to announce to the beneficiaries of the concentration camp at the Lycée National de Pétion-ville that, starting next weekend, they will be entitled to a snack during the eight-hour class period, as is already the case at the École République du Guatemala. The announcement was warmly applauded by the students.

"Official exams remain the only dialogue space where the State engages with young people. The Ministry cannot subject students to exams that do not reflect the established objectives. However, it would be unfair to subject learners to exams that do not correspond to the curricula developed by teachers in the classroom," explained Minister Antoine, hence the importance of these courses aimed at addressing learning gaps and shortcomings.
