iciHaiti - Justice : Tour of detention centers
Me Frantz Monclair, Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, intends to inquire into the conditions of detention in his jurisdiction, in the prisons and police stations of the capital.

With this initiative, the Government Commissioner is acting in accordance with the provisions of Article 447 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which imposes on judicial authorities a duty to regularly monitor places of deprivation of liberty.

It should be recalled that the Ministry of Justice and Public Security recently required all Prosecutors' Offices at the Courts of First Instance to prepare and submit a detailed monthly report on the state of detention centers in the country's 18 courts of first instance.

This action by Minister Pélissier demonstrates a desire to restore citizens' confidence in the Haitian judicial system while ensuring rigorous monitoring of detention conditions, in accordance with the Constitution and the international conventions to which Haiti is a party.
