iciHaiti - DR : Denial of a mass movement of Haitians at the border
On Monday, July 7, 2025, during his weekly press briefing, President Luis Abinader denied rumors suggesting a mass movement of Haitians fleeing towards Elías Piña from the town of Lascahobas in Haiti, following an attack by armed bandits https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-45260-icihaiti-lascahobas-the-official-exams-interrupted.html

Abinader clarified that, although tensions had increased in the region, the Dominican government maintained full control of the border area, stating that the border remained secure and would remain so, "no matter what happens on the Haitian side."

"Business continues and there is no danger to the Dominican Republic at this time," added Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, Minister of Defense, explaining that the border area on the Dominican side, including Elías Piña and the Comendador commercial area, is calm and functioning, assuring that "Businesses are operating normally and there is no threat to the security of the national territory at this time." He added that armed gangs are still present in the town of Mirebalais, although they attempted a small incursion towards the Lascahobas entrance a few days ago.
