iciHaiti - Politic : Installation of a new Director General of Customs

On Monday, September 22, 2025, Alfred Fils Metellus, Minister of Economy and Finance, installed Gérald Remplais as the new Director General of the General Customs Administration (AGD).

After the prayer, the national anthem, and welcoming remarks by the master of ceremonies, Julcene Edouard, the outgoing Director General, took advantage of his brief speaking time to review his three years of service in this position, including the reopening of the National Customs School, which had been closed for many years. He thanked his customs colleagues for their collaboration and professionalism, urging them to apply this same level of professionalism to the new Director General.

In his speech, Minister Metellus stated that his Ministry will ensure that the major reform projects initiated are continued and those that have remained on the back burner are launched in the coming days. He urged the new Director General to launch, energize, and manage major reforms, such as the proposed special status for customs officers, with the aim of making Customs more efficient and our businesses more competitive. He then presented the Deed of Extension to Gérald Remlais.

In his opening remarks, the new Director General committed to working on three fundamental areas, which, according to him, are necessary to inject new momentum into the image of the Customs Administration:

- Combating fraud and smuggling of all kinds;

- Control and facilitation with a view to consolidating and increasing tax revenues;

- Combating internal and external corruption in all its forms.
