iciHaiti - PAHO/WHO : Donation of ten thermocoagulation devices to the MSPP
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) held a ceremony to hand over ten thermocoagulation devices to the Ministry of Public Health. This donation aims to strengthen screening and treatment for precancerous cervical lesions in Haiti.

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Haiti. Each year, approximately 588 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 439 die from it. The majority of these deaths could be prevented through early detection and treatment of precancerous lesions.

The new thermocoagulation devices offer an alternative to cryotherapy by replacing heavy containers requiring compressed gas with portable, battery-powered tools. This technology allows patients to access treatment directly in primary health centers, with a rapid procedure lasting just a few minutes. Each health department will now have at least one device, helping to expand access to care.

In alignment with the WHO's 90, 70, and 90 goals aimed at eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem by 2030, this support is also part of the PAHO-led elimination initiative, which aims to eliminate more than 30 related diseases and conditions by 2030 in the Region of the Americas, including cervical cancer.
