iciHaiti - Politic : UN Appoints New Resident Coordinator in Haiti

On Friday, October 3rd, 2025, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Nicole Flora Boni Kouassi of Côte d'Ivoire as Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and Country Resident Coordinator.

She will also serve as Humanitarian Coordinator. Ms. Boni Kouassi succeeds Ingeborg Ulrika Ulfsdotter Richardson of Sweden, whom the Secretary-General thanked for her dedication and unwavering commitment to the United Nations.

Ms. Boni Kouassi brings to this position more than 22 years of experience within the United Nations, with extensive experience in the fields of development, peace, security, and humanitarian action. She has been the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Niger since 2022.

Previously, she served as the UNDP Resident Representative in Burundi from 2019 to 2022 and as the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim in 2021.

Previously, she held various leadership positions, including UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Djibouti and Niger, and Senior UN Coherence Specialist in New York.

Boni Kouassi holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, formerly the Université de Cocody, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Maryland.

In addition to her native language, Baoulé, she is fluent in English and French.
