The Cap-Haitien Municipal Commission deplores a regrettable altercation that occurred on Saturday, December 27, 2025, during a road maintenance operation.

Details of the incident :
The incident occurred while City Hall crews were removing illegally parked vehicles. This routine operation escalated into an altercation involving :

  • Municipal security officers;
  • Media professionals (journalists);
  • Members of the public.

The Commission deplores, in particular, the throwing of stones aimed at the officers on duty.

Firm measures and ongoing investigation :
Given the seriousness of the incident, the Municipal Commission immediately took the following steps :

  • Opening of an official investigation to identify those responsible and fully clarify the sequence of events;
  • Strict sanctions will be applied to offenders, in accordance with applicable regulations;
  • A call for calm and restraint, reminding everyone that violence is never a legitimate response to public service missions;

Support for press professionals and freedom of information :
The Commission reaffirms its unwavering commitment to press freedom. It commends the courage of journalists and their essential dedication to the right to information. Mutual respect between security forces and the media is a prerequisite for social peace. "Civic courtesy, dialogue, and respect for everyone's roles are the pillars of our collective security," the Mayor's office stated.
