iciHaïti - Health : Mobile clinic at the Gonaïves prison
Following the launch by Dr. Bertrand Sinale, Minister of Public Health, of a national initiative to improve health in prisons, the Departmental Health Directorates (DDS) were invited to implement similar actions in their respective territories.

It was within this framework that on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Dr. Frantz Alexis, Executive Director of La Providence Hospital in Gonaïves, led a mobile clinic at the city's prison.

This humanitarian effort had a dual objective: to assess the health of the inmates and provide them with primary care in order to prevent the spread of infectious and chronic diseases.

For this intervention, Dr. Alexis was accompanied by a team of a dozen doctors and an equal number of nurses whose mission was to conduct a comprehensive health assessment and address the most urgent medical needs.

Following this mobile clinic visit, Dr. Frantz Alexis raised concerns about the general health of the inmates, which "requires rapid intervention and regular medical follow-up." He commended the Minister of Health for his commitment to this national priority.

Logistically, the operation was entirely managed by La Providence Hospital, without any public or political support at this stage. Dr. Alexis hopes, however, to secure institutional support, especially since a second mobile clinic is already scheduled for January 2026.

Among the identified conditions were cases of tuberculosis, diabetes, and urinary tract infections. Medications were provided for immediate treatment.

Finally, Dr. Alexis announced that these mobile clinics will now be held every two weeks to alleviate pressure on the hospital and sustainably improve access to healthcare in prisons.

Talks are also underway with a specialized organization to improve hygiene conditions within the prison.
