On Friday, July 24, 2026, the Ministry of Culture organized a tribute ceremony at the Montana Hotel dedicated to the leading figures of Konpa music, celebrating their invaluable contribution to the national cultural heritage.

Through this initiative, the Government sought to honor the women and men whose talent, passion, and perseverance have made Konpa much more than a musical genre : a living expression of Haitian identity, a universal language that unites generations, and a powerful vehicle for Haiti's influence throughout the world.

The event brought together members of the Government, representatives of the diplomatic corps, artists, musicians, writers, cultural operators, and numerous other prominent figures from the cultural world, in an atmosphere imbued with gratitude and national pride.

By his presence, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by Minister of Culture Emmanuel Ménard, expressed the State's deep commitment to those who, for over seven decades, have stirred the hearts of the Haitian people and carried the voice of our nation far beyond its borders.

In his address, Emmanuel Ménard noted the highly symbolic significance of this celebration, as Konpa prepares to celebrate its seventy-first anniversary on July 26th and as the first anniversary of its inscription on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity has just been commemorated.

The Minister also presented several key projects aimed at strengthening the foundations of the cultural sector, including the rehabilitation of heritage sites, the creation of cultural centers throughout the country, and the submission of the draft organic law for the Ministry of Culture.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé paid a heartfelt tribute to the founders of Konpa music, with particular praise for its illustrious pioneer, Nemours Jean-Baptiste. He hailed these artists as guardians of a collective memory and architects of a legacy that continues to inspire, unite, and bring renown to Haiti.

Speaking about the launch of the Cultural Activities Support Program, the Prime Minister emphasized that supporting culture is investing in the nation's future and empowering young people to fully express their talent and creativity.

"Investing in culture means sowing seeds of hope in the hearts of our youth. It means opening paths where talent becomes a strength, where creation nurtures dignity, and where identity illuminates the future."

"Today, the Republic bows respectfully before the founders of Konpa. Their work transcends notes and melodies; It tells our story, carries our memory, and lets the world hear the breath of a people standing tall. Konpa is one of the most beautiful expressions of the Haitian soul. As long as it resonates, Haiti will continue to make the heart of the world beat to the rhythm of its culture, its creativity, and its hope.
