iciHaiti - Dominican Rep. : 52 undocumented Haitians intercepted, hidden in a truck
Early Saturday morning, January 10, members of the Dominican Army, following an intelligence operation, intercepted a van with license plate TN-7665 near the General Benito Monción Fortress in the municipality of Mao (Valverde Province). The van was illegally transporting 52 Haitians (42 men, 7 women, and 3 children) in an irregular immigration situation.

Ignacio Antonio Gómez, the van's driver, was arrested. He was also in possession of 15,500 Dominican pesos, a cell phone, and identification documents, which were seized as part of the investigation.

Authorities indicated that Ignacio Antonio Gómez was transferred to the Dominican National Police, where he will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office for prosecution. In the meantime, the vehicle and the undocumented Haitians remain in military custody.

Furthermore, in Dajabón province, in a separate operation, the Army, supported by surveillance drones, located 16 Haitian nationals (10 men, 5 women, and 1 minor) in an irregular migration situation in a house under construction in the Canal Mayor neighborhood and arrested them. The undocumented Haitians were transferred and handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for processing.
