iciHaiti - Obituary : Passing of former international player Eddy Antoine

The Haitian Football Federation learned with immense sadness of the passing of former Grenadier Eddy Antoine at the age of 76 on Sunday, February 8. He was an indispensable player for the national team that participated in the 1974 World Cup in Germany.

Born on August 12, 1949, he was part of the golden generation that won the inter-school championship with Lycée Toussaint in 1969, before joining Racing Club Haïtien. With the "Old Lion" of Port-au-Prince, Eddy Antoine won several titles, notably in 1977, the year the team remained undefeated for a long period at the Sylvio Cator Stadium.

Eddy Antoine had the opportunity to play professionally in the United States, where he played for the New Jersey Brewers and the Chicago Stings. Whether as a midfielder or a forward, he remains an iconic figure in Haitian football, having greatly contributed to the growth and promotion of the national sport on the international stage.

This passing has plunged his family into deep sorrow. The Federation extends its sincere condolences to all members of his family and expresses its sympathy to his former classmates at Collège Georges Marc, where he began his competitive school career; to his former classmates and teammates at Lycée Toussaint; to his teammates on the national team; to Racing Club Haïtien; and to the entire Haitian football community.

May his soul rest in peace.
