iciHaiti - Army : The Dominican Republic produces its own military armored vehicles
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the Commander-in-Chief of the Dominican Army, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, visited several border units in the provinces of Independencia and Elías Piña to assess the security measures in place and to strengthen security along the border with Haiti.

During his visit, the Commander-in-Chief met with senior officers to discuss potential improvements to border security, emphasizing the importance of vigilance.

This tour came the day after President Luis Abinader officially handed over advanced military vehicles and equipment to the Armed Forces at a ceremony held at the August 16 Military Camp.

Among the equipment were three FURIA (Unified Immediate Reaction Force) armored vehicles (Level III security), produced by the Dominican military industry, and a military drone. Abinader announced that 20 more FURIA BB2 armored vehicles will be assembled by the Dominican military industry. In addition, 35 patrol trucks, 18 troop transport vehicles, two logistics trucks, and 35 motorcycles were also delivered.

Defense Minister Carlos Fernández Onofre also highlighted the acquisition of new tactical and strategic equipment, including state-of-the-art support weapons, autonomous drone systems, and anti-drone systems, as part of strengthening the C5I system and border and airspace control.

President Luis Abinader stated that the Dominican Republic now has the necessary military equipment to protect its border and respond to any situation, whether border-related or internal.
