iciHaiti - National Ambulance Center : 10,556 emergencies handled in 2025

The National Ambulance Center (CAN) has published its statistical report for 2025, highlighting intense activity with a total of 10,556 emergency calls handled.

Demographics :

Data analysis reveals that the majority of interventions involved young adults and women.

Gender Distribution :

Women accounted for 55% of interventions (6,009 cases), compared to 40% for men (4,271 cases). In 5% of cases, gender was not specified.

Most Active Age Groups :

The 26-35 age group was the most affected (21%), closely followed by those over 65 (18%) and the 36-49 age group (17%).

Main Reasons for Intervention :

The report details the nature of the emergencies treated during the year. Medical transfers and obstetric emergencies dominated the clinical picture.

- Transfers (Referrals & Examinations) : 2,720 cases;

- Obstetric Emergencies : 2,272 cases (more than a third of interventions for women);

- Chronic Diseases : 987 cases (various pathologies);

- Road Traffic Accidents : 887 cases;

- Trauma : 760 cases (injuries and fractures of varying degrees);

- Respiratory Distress : 573 cases (not associated with COVID-19);

- Abdominal Pain : 478 cases.

The security and health situation in Haiti is reflected in the CAN statistics:

Armed Violence :

The center treated 437 cases of gunshot wounds and 219 cases of stab wounds.

Cholera :

A total of 284 cases were recorded (129 confirmed and 155 suspected).

Burns : 35 cases.

Special attention to the youngest :

Children aged 0 to 5 years (845 cases):

The main reasons were respiratory distress (226 cases) and transfers (226 cases), followed by cholera (72 cases).

Children aged 6 to 15 (361 cases) : Besides transfers (99 cases), cholera is the second leading cause of intervention in this age group, with 77 cases.
